Apprenticeships

An apprentice is someone who learns a skilled trade on the job, under the direction of a more experienced worker. Apprentices also complete classroom instruction as a part of their training.

Becoming an apprentice is a critical first step to learning a skilled trade for a career in rail. There are many skilled trade positions in the railway industry that are challenging, rewarding and well paying. And, since Canada is suffering from a current skilled trades shortage, there is high demand for tradespeople, especially in rail.

There are currently seven apprenticeship programs, recognized either provincially or nationally, that service the rail industry. To learn more about the apprenticeships in your province, click here!
