Job Description

  • In this demanding role you will work as part of team performing heavy labour related to servicing and maintenance of freight cars.
  • Inspection and repairs to freight cars.
Job Requirements :

Specific Responsibilities

To repair, maintain and inspect freight car equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

Perform all preventative maintenance work & repairs on trucks, underframe, structure, safety appliances, braking systems, draft systems and any associated tests.

Perform all work associated with rush repairs, road work and supplementary service operation of equipment.

Repair and application of all associated piping & valves, guards, shrouds, covers and any cutting, burning, welding, grinding, soldiering and brazing associated with removal or application of components.

Qualifications & Education

  • #1 Proof of completion of Apprenticeship as a Rail Car Mechanic or a Carmen's Certification.
  • #2 Holds a recognized CAW journeyman/woman card in the trade in which he claims recognition or.
  • #3 Has practical and general experience covering all phases laid down in the apprenticeship course applicable to the trade in which he claims journeyman/woman status and possesses ample proof of such experience
  • To qualify you must be able to work week ends and shift work, overtime: perform repetitive tasks; work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • In addition, you must possess a safety-oriented work ethic supported by related experience within the labour industry. The ability to follow instructions and obey rules and regulations is essential. You must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Employment of successful candidates will be subject to reference checks, security clearance and medical examinations including drug screening.
  • Must provide proof of completion of high school or a General Equivalency Diploma.
  • Communication and Planning/Prioritizing skills.
  • Computer Skills
